Chief Minister: 

Chief Minister is the administrative head of each of the twenty-nine state in India. According to the Indian Constitution the Chief Minister is elected by a state’s Legislative Assembly election. Chief Minister is appointed by the Governor of a state. State’s Council of Ministers are collectively responsible to the assembly. Chief Minister can not serve more than five years unless he/she is re-elected in the assembly election.

Governor:

Governor is the executive or constitutional head of each of the twenty-nine state in India. He/she is directly appointed by the President of India for a maximum term of five years. Governor can resign from the post before ending of the term. On the other hand he/she could be transfered to other state or terminated by the President of India before ending of term. A state’s Council of Ministers are appointed by the Governor indirectly with advise of Chief Minister. Indian Constitution permits a citizen to be a Governor with a minimum age of 35 years. State’s Chairman and members of PSC, Advocate General are also appointed by the Governor with advise of Chief Ministers. Without Governor’s permission no money bills can be passed in the state assembly.

Capital: 

According to Indian Constitution there should be a capital of each state. Presently there are total 29 states and 7 union territories with capital in India as of 2017-2018

First governor-general of free India – C. Rajagopalachari

Sixteen women served as Chief Minister of an Indian state ever. Among them Mamata Banerjee, Mehbooba Mufti and Vasundhara Raje are currently in office as of 2017-2018.

Uttar Pradesh is the first Indian state to have a female Chief Minister from Indian National Congress, Mrs. Sucheta Kripalni who served from 1963-1967.

Sarojini Naidu is the first female to become a governor of an Indian state. She served as governor of Uttar Pradesh from 1947-1949.

The most recent UP Chief Minister, who took office in 26 March 2017, is a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and has been MP of Gorakhpur constituency.
