One of Earth’s mega multi-sport event is going to be held for the first time in South America, the countdown has begun already. From 5th August 2016 Rio will welcome 206 countries to four venues to compete for 4924 medals across 42 sports all in just for 17 days of action. Ten thousand and five hundred athelets are participating in this event.

The Rio Olympics will be held in four main venues in-: Deodoro, Barra, Copacabana and Maracana sites for olympic sports stadium with 33 of total competition venues.

7.5 Million tickets for the Rio Olympic games will be on sale. The organising committee is expecting 5 lakhs tourists from around the world will be part of Olympic games. The mascot name of this event is Vinicius, it pays tribute to brazilian musician Vinicius de Moraes. Vinicius is mix of Brazilian animals, the mascot represents the Brazilian culture.

Kosovo and South Sudan are the two countries will participate for the first time along with two new sports golf and rugby seven. Opening and closing ceremony will be at Maracana Stadium which is known a football stadium with a capacity of 78000 people.

The Olympic village will be covering 185 acres of area where atheletes, officials, will take place. Organisers will prepare 60000 meals a day for athelets. Tickets to Rio costs 40 Real to 4200 Real. The largest number of events will be hosted at Barra Da Tijuca and the rest will be in Copacabana, Maracana and Deodoro.

Women were included in Olympics for the first in 1900 in Paris. That year 22 women participated in five sports: Tennis, Croquet, Sailing, Equestrian and golf. After 112 year golf is being added to Olympics.

The winter Olympics started in 1924.

The Olympic games were cancelled in 1916 due to world war I and in 1940 and 1944 due to world war II.

The Olympic torch symbolises the link between ancient and modern olympics.
