Chief Minister: 

Chief Minister is the administrative head of each of the twenty-nine state in India. According to the Indian Constitution the Chief Minister is elected by a state’s Legislative Assembly election. Chief Minister is appointed by the Governor of a state. State’s Council of Ministers are collectively responsible to the assembly. Chief Minister can not serve more than five years unless he/she is re-elected in the assembly election.

Governor:

Governor is the executive or constitutional head of each of the twenty-nine state in India. He/she is directly appointed by the President of India for a maximum term of five years. Governor can resign from the post before ending of the term. On the other hand he/she could be transfered to other state or terminated by the President of India before ending of term. A state’s Council of Ministers are appointed by the Governor indirectly with advise of Chief Minister. Indian Constitution permits a citizen to be a Governor with a minimum age of 35 years. State’s Chairman and members of PSC, Advocate General are also appointed by the Governor with advise of Chief Ministers. Without Governor’s permission no money bills can be passed in the state assembly.

Capital: 

According to Indian Constitution there should be a capital of each state. Presently there are total 29 states and 7 union territories with capital in India as of 2017-2018

Sixteen women served as Chief Minister of an Indian state ever. Among them Mamata Banerjee, Mehbooba Mufti and Vasundhara Raje are currently in office as of 2017-2018.

Uttar Pradesh is the first Indian state to have a female Chief Minister from Indian National Congress, Mrs. Sucheta Kripalni who served from 1963-1967.

Sarojini Naidu is the first female to become a governor of an Indian state. She served as governor of Uttar Pradesh from 1947-1949.

The most recent UP Chief Minister, who took office in 26 March 2017, is a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and has been MP of Gorakhpur constituency.

Sikkim Chief Minister is the longest, a term of twenty two years(1994-2017) serving person among all current CMs of Indian states. He represents the party of Sikkim Democratic Front.

Former 6th Chief Minister of West Bengal, Jyoti Basu recorded as the longest serving person ever in Indian political history. As WB CM he took office during President’s rule in 1977 and served till 2000.

N. Chandrababu Naidu The thirteenth and longest serving Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh state. Nara Chandrababu Naidu took office in 1995 preceded by N. Kiran Kumar Reddy. In 2014 after formation of Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh, Naidu re-elected as Chief Minister. He is also the President of Telugu Desam Party

Pema Khandu became the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh state on 17 July 2016, replaced by former CM Nabam Tuki. Pema Khandu is from Buddhist religion and represents Indian National Congress party. He was born in 1979 at Tawang district

Sarbananda  Sonowal The fourteenth Chief Minister of state of Assam, took office on 24 May 2016, preceded by Tarun Gogoi. He is from Hindu religion and represents Bharatiya Janata Party

V.P.Singh Badnore is the present Governor of Punjab and he took office on 22 August 2016, preceded by Kaptan Singh Solanki. V. P. Singh Badnore was a member of the 13th and 14th Lok Sabha of India.

Kalyan Singh is the present Governor of Rajasthan and took office on September 2014, preceded by Margaret Alva. Kalyan Singh also served as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 1991-1992. 

Shriniwas Patil is the present Governor of Sikkim and took office in 20 July 2013, preceded by Balmiki Prasad Singh.

Krishan Kant Paul is the 6th Governor of Indian state Uttarakhand and he took office on 8th January 2015 preceded by Aziz Qureshi. K. K. Paul also served as Governor of state Meghalaya from 2013-2015 and as a Police Commissioner of Delhi from 2004-2007.

Keshari Nath Tripathi is the 24th Governor of West Bengal state and he took oath on 24 July 2014. Tripathi also took oath as Governor of Meghalaya on 6 January 2015.
